Longtime Board Member Elected to Position of Chair

February 9, 2011

Edmonton- Rural Alberta Development Fund Board of Directors has elected board member Jann Beeston to the role of Board Chair. Beeston has served on the Board of Directors since 2006. Her passion and understanding for rural capacity building, as well as her strong community ties ensure she will lead Rural Alberta Development Fund towards achieving its objectives as the remaining $25 million is committed to projects throughout rural Alberta.

"This is a very important time for rural Alberta, and for our organization," said Beeston. "As we commit our remaining funds over the next 13 months, it is critical we focus on funding projects that will have the greatest impact on rural Alberta. I very much look forward to serving as Chair as we provide seed money to support the visions of some of Alberta's most innovative and inspiring community leaders."

Beeston is an active community member, volunteering for numerous organizations and serving on various boards and committees. She has a diverse background including founding a community led non-profit society in Hanna, designed to deliver learning, career, employment and referral services to the area residents. She was also appointed to a task team by the Government of Alberta to provide recommendations on aligning community based learning and post secondary learning systems.

More recently Beeston served as Chair of the Alberta Community Learning Network. She also Co-Chaired the Alberta Nonprofit/Voluntary Sector Initiative with Alberta Culture and Community Spirit Deputy Minister Lois Hawkins. Beeston is currently General Manager of Community Programming with Campus Alberta Central, a partnership with Olds College and Red Deer College.

Originally from Australia, Beeston resides in Hanna, Alberta. She begins her role as Chair of the Board of Directors immediately.
