Project Description

Support from the Rural Alberta Development Fund will allow development of a sustainable and vibrant year-round arts and culture program for the West Yellowhead region of Alberta. The program will be centred in Hinton. It will bring together smaller urban and cultural arts organizations, and deliver arts programs such as theatre, visual arts, and music throughout the region.

The program will be managed by the Yellowhead Regional Arts Festival Society. Society partners include the municipalities of Hinton, Edson, Jasper, and Grande Cache, along with Yellowhead County and several regional businesses.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • Organizers have successfully staged 16 arts events
  • Ticket buyers are satisfied with the high quality of performances
  • Program is sustainable and draws more employment, volunteerism, and tourism to Yellowhead region
  • Diversify the region’s economic base
  • Increase development of arts and culture in the region
  • Increase quality of life for current and potential residents
  • Generate employment for a program coordinator, business manager, and a team of part-time staff throughout the region
  • Increase quality of life and cultivate new jobs and opportunities that are not reliant on the region’s resource industries
