Project Description

The Rural Alberta Development Fund's investment has enabled northern rural Alberta communities to access the knowledge, resources, and infrastructure they need to establish their own Habitat for Humanity programs. Participating communities develop skills that allow them to build affordable housing for low-income families using the Habitat for Humanity model. Barrhead, Hinton, Edson, Fairview, Wetaskiwin, and Whitecourt were pilot communities.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • Fifteen northern Alberta communities have at least 1 Habitat for Humanity building project in each of their respective communities
  • Develop a Habitat for Humanity training program for rural communities
  • Increase affordable housing for rural low-income families
