Project Description

This project recruited volunteers and trained them to help preserve and protect 30,000 acres of wildlife habitat throughout Alberta. Contained within 80 properties owned by the Alberta Fish & Game Association, the pilot phase of the project met its target of recruiting and training enough volunteer stewards for 25% of the association's habitat. With curriculum, training, and marketing materials now in place, the association is working towards recruiting and training stewards for its remaining habitat.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • Increase opportunities for Albertans to participate in conservation activities through stewardship
  • Provide additional public information and educational material on Alberta wildlife habitats
  • Provide better access to detailed information on recreational opportunities in Alberta
  • Support preservation of critical wildlife areas in Alberta
  • Create a team of local, trained volunteers to look after wildlife habitat, and enhance the province’s capacity to care for vital nature areas
