Project Description

This Rocky Mountain House-based project has been completed. The Rural Alberta Development Fund's support expanded skills training for Aboriginal learners and developed new online programming that was in demand but not easily accessible. Students engaged in the programming were able to find and keep suitable employment. The launch of the adult literacy distance learning program in 2008 marked the first time such a program was available to individuals in remote Alberta communities.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • New markets have been developed for Sunchild’s adult literacy distance learning program and a new company called U-Train has been formed to ensure the program is self-sustaining
  • Provide access to specialized courses no matter where  a student lives in Alberta
  • Adapt course content and delivery to Aboriginal cultural and learning needs
  • Address industry’s needs through course development and learning
