Project Description

The Vulcan Business Development Society is developing several homegrown technology projects, including a virtual rural college and green-energy projects. This three-year project focuses on developing skills and technologies through workshops, training sessions, and peer support. The Vulcan Business Development Society Board is composed of the Town of Vulcan, Vulcan County, and the Villages of Lomond, Milo, Arrowwood, Carmangay, and Champion.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • Increase access to technology and skills training for local business, organizations, and individuals
  • Develop resources and workshops to help local businesses increase their use of technology
  • Create new jobs in the technology sector
  • Establish a rural virtual college that provides employment skills training
  • Retain rural youth in their communities with high-quality employment opportunities
