Project Description

Operating out of the Flagstaff District, this project attracted key agri-businesses into the region. Potential value-added businesses were identified and screened, with the most likely prospects approached and enticed to locate in the area. Industries targeted include ethanol and biodiesel processing facilities, a commercial food and food supplement greenhouse, a bio-mass refinery, and flaxseed production facilities.

Expected Outcomes and Benefits

All projects go through a selection process to ensure they will improve the quality of life for Albertans. This project meets this objective through the following outcomes and benefits:

  • Enhance agricultural base generating increased crop demand and revenue
  • Increase local economic activity, employment, and access to secondary value-added services for local residents
  • Support local ownership and return on investment for regional groups
  • Develop an effective media and marketing plan
  • Create 60–70 new job opportunities
